What Is The Best Website Builder For Contractors?
As I’m working alongside other contractors and talking to customers on a daily basis, I can’t help but to think about some of the methods guys like me use to get more customers these days. A website seems to be one of the best places to start, so I put together this list of the top 5 website builders that are great for Contractors and construction companies.
The Best Website Builder For Contractors is among this list of 3 top website building platforms. 1. Wordpress.com, 2. Squarespace.com, 3. Wix.com. Each of these builders has their upsides and downsides, but the overall best website builder for a contractor to use is Wix.com. It’s average in price range, and has a good amount of custom features available.
Why Use A Website Builder Instead Of Hiring A Developer?
Using a website builder definitely isn’t for everyone. It can take a lot of time and effort to set up a great website, and even once you put the time into your website it may not turn out the way you expected.
A Website Builder may be right for you if you:
-Have a small budget
-Have some time to sit down and work on a website
-Are good at creative activities such as drawing or designing
-Are a blogger, and actively publishing content on a daily or weekly basis
-Like to be in control of every aspect of your business
A Website Designer may be right for you if you:
-Have a business that is growing quickly
-Are willing to invest money but not time into developing your website
-Are not confident in your ability to design a website
-Would rather take care of your own business, and let an expert designer do what he does best
-Would like to position yourselves as the leader in your industry
I’ve used a lot of website building platforms in my career. Many guys who’ve been designing websites for years started on platforms like Wordpress.com, so that’s the first platform in our list.
Wordpress.com- The Most Customizable
PRICE: Plans start at $4/mo
-Large variety of resources available if you need help
-Cheap, depending on your needs
-Has the capabilities to build simple, or very advanced websites
-You can edit all the code of your website
-No support team to help with issues
-It is not the most user-friendly
-You might need to hire a developer to help build or manage it
-Will take longer to get up and running
Wordpress is a great platform to build your website on. It has a ton of custom features, plugins, and themes available. One reason why many designers build with wordpress is because of the amount of customizable content available. Wordpress let’s you customize virtually every aspect of your website, and even lets you build something completely from scratch.
While it’s great to be able to customize as much of your website as you want, it also comes with its downsides. If you aren’t experienced with HTML coding, and aren’t a website designer, Wordpress can be a little daunting. There are certainly plenty of aspects of Wordpress that are great for the average person, but if you want a platform that is REALLY easy to use, Wordpress is not right for you.
The average person most likely won’t be able to make a great looking website using wordpress. If you’re willing and able to learn code, then you’ll probably be able to make a website with Wordpress that looks pretty good. But since most of you are running your own businesses, I’m guessing you won’t have a lot of patience or time to be messing around with a website platform that isn’t intuitive to what you already have knowledge of.
This is the dashboard of a Wordpress website. If this looks a bit daunting to you, read on for 2 more website builders that are a little bit easier to manage.
Squarespace.com - Basic & Beautiful
PRICE: Plans start at $12/mo
-Very easy to use
-It’s not hard to make your website look decent
-Good support team and articles
-Limited options for customizing
-Limited options for SEO
Squarespace is known for having a very simple and easy to use website building platform. It’s pretty easy for the average person to start up a squarespace site and make it look relatively good.
With that being said, if you want a website that has a big WOW factor, you’ll still need to spend quite a bit of time on your website, even with Squarespace. Squarespace is used by some relatively big names, one of which is Joe Rogan, previous host of Fear Factor and host of the Joe Rogan Experience, a podcast with over 190 million monthly listeners.
While Squarespace can be very easy to build with, it’s also relatively limited on it’s features. If you want a website that has a lot of custom features, it may not be right for you. Many contractors are in need of custom pricing tools and other elements that most likely aren’t able to be integrated with a Squarespace website.
Squarespace is best for people who just want a very simple website. We have used Squarespace to build websites for a few clients, one of which is woodwiseboulder.com. They use their website mostly for showcasing their work.
Wix.com - The Best of Both Worlds
PRICE: Plans start at $5/mo
-You can edit the code
-Easy to use
-Lots of apps to integrate with
-Pricing is competitive
-Developers available to work with directly from Wix
-Phone support can be unhelpful at times
Our personal favorite out of the three is Wix.com. We use Wix for a lot of the clients that we build websites for, and for good reason. Wix allows the user to build very high quality websites, and also have custom features if they have coding experience and are confident enough to implement those features themselves.
What’s great about Wix is it’s simplicity. While the Editor can often be slow, it is simple to use without cutting out features. Squarespace offers simplicity at the cost of features, while Wix is both simple and full of capabilities.
Wix also makes it easy to help your right rank in Google. They have “wix experts” that you can hire for SEO, designing, blogging, or practically any other activity that you might need done on your website. They also have tons of tutorial videos and help forums that you can access if you run into problems.
One of my favorite features of wix is the ability for it to be integrated with other platforms. Wix has an app market where you can install additional tools like might be useful to have on your website, such as custom pricing tools or Google Analytics. They make it easy to connect tracking data such as your Facebook Pixel, so you don’t have to be a developer to figure out many items that would otherwise require coding knowledge.
One note is that Wix doesn’t have the best customer support. If that’s big to you, then you should hire a developer to manage your website, or simply choose another platform altogether.
Overall, Wix.com is probably the best choice for the average person. It’s relatively easy to use, has a great degree of custom features, and allows the user to build beautiful websites.
